Obama Statement on Ahmadinejad’s UN Remarks

TIME, Pat Dollard,Obama Statement on Ahmadinejad’s UN Remarks

“I strongly condemn President Ahmadinejad’s outrageous remarks at the United Nations, and am disappointed that he had a platform to air his hateful and anti-Semitic views. The threat from Iran’s nuclear program is grave. Now is the time for Americans to unite on behalf of the strong sanctions that are needed to increase pressure on the Iranian regime.

“Once again, I call upon Senator McCain to join me in supporting a bipartisan bill to increase pressure on the Iranian regime by allowing states and private companies to divest from companies doing business in Iran. The security of our ally Israel is too important to play partisan politics, and it is deeply disappointing that Senator McCain and a few of his allies in Congress feel otherwise,” said Senator Barack Obama.

It is quite unfortunate to see even Obama fall into this typical role, as other US leaders have.  Blindly backing Isreal is something I do not understand and that is my fault, but I find it appauling that the US condemns a country for activities and actions which it has taken part in time after time.   Mr. Ahmadinejad, whether he is any worse then western leaders or not, brought up many valid points during his speech and Larry King interview.  Unfornately most will be ignorant to the reality and allow themselves to be swept up in the rhetoric….

I couldn’t agree with you more, Clint.  I’m a supporter of Obama and have been since day one, believing him to be the one candidate who will take us in another, better direction.  I’ll still vote for him - but now I’m back to the feeling I’ve had in every other election when choosing a candidate - he’s the lesser of two evils.  :(

I watched Larry King Live last night and read what Ahmadinejad had to say to the UN and quite frankly, there was nothing unreasonable in what he had to say.  I don’t get this blind support for Israel either - I never have understood that.

We support Israel because they’re not around just to take out the Arabs and gloat about how cool they are. They’ve asked for many many years for people to leave them alone, and to get the land they believe they were promised. They’ve been fighting the muslims on this for thousands of years. Stop saying that Israel is the aggressor. I don’t know if you both were in comas the last couple years, but I seem to remember not long ago that there was a truce between them and the Palestinians, but the Palestinians decided that they just had to keep on fighting so they attacked, then got all pissed off when Israel rolled over there and started blowing things up. It’s not a blind support, it’s a support that has years of history behind it. I’m not even going to wake the sleeping dragon that is the Obama/McCain debate, but just know that the most important decision you can make right now is to VERY CAREFULLY research the candidates. Don’t just watch them on TV and think that what they say is what they mean. Do irritatingly careful research about both of them. I’m not a big Obama fan, but I will say that I’m proud that he has least learned to be a little bit patriotic. I’m also happy that he’s finally learned that talking to people will not solve all the problems. A point for him.
