Breitbart, “Internet revolution that elected Obama could save Earth: Gore”
Former US vice president Al Gore said an Internet revolution carrying Barack Obama to the White House should now focus its power on stopping Earth’s climate crisis.
The one-time presidential contender turned environmental champion told Web 2.0 Summit goers in San Francisco Friday that technology has provided tools to save the planet while creating jobs and stimulating the crippled economy.
“The young people who have been inspired by Barack Obama’s campaign and the movement that powered Barack Obama’s campaign want a purpose,” Gore said.

Pat Dollard, “A First Since 1979: Iranian Jihadi Piglet Congratulates President-Elect”
TEHRAN (AFP)— Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday congratulated US president-elect Barack Obama on his success — rare praise between two countries which are arch-foes, IRNA news agency reported.

“You know the opportunities bestowed upon people by God are short-lived,” he said.

Yahoo! Finance, “Stocks extend decline as economic woes mount”

NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street recoiled again Thursday, sending stocks lower for a second day after Cisco Systems Inc. reported slumping demand and retailers turned in generally weak sales for October. Concerns about widespread economic weakness sent the major stock indexes down more than 3.5 percent, including the Dow Jones industrial average, which tumbled 400 points.
Comments from Cisco that it saw a steep drop in orders in October and reports from retailers that consumers are skipping trips to the mall provided fresh evidence of the economy’s struggles. While Wal-Mart Stores Inc. benefited from bargain-seekers, some specialty retailers posted big drops in monthly sales.

FOXNews, “Medvedev: Russia to Deploy Missiles in Response to U.S. Missile Shield”

In a separate telegram, he congratulated Barack Obama on his election victory and said he was hoping for “constructive dialogue” with the incoming U.S. president.
MOSCOW — Russia will deploy missiles near NATO member Poland in response to U.S. missile defense plans, President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday in his first state of the nation speech.
Medvedev also singled out the United States for criticism, casting Russia’s war with Georgia in August and the global financial turmoil as consequences of aggressive, selfish U.S. policies.
He said he hoped the next U.S. administration would act to improve relations. In a separate telegram, he congratulated Barack Obama on his election victory and said he was hoping for “constructive dialogue” with the incoming U.S. president.
Medvedev also proposed increasing the Russian presidential term to six years from the current four, a major constitutional change that would further increase the power of the head of state and could deepen Western concern over democracy in Russia.

Newark, New Jersey Local News, “If You Want George W. Bush to go to Prison…You Better Vote for Obama”

We have heard the arguments. We have heard the agendas. Now, the country goes to vote. Will the winner be successful in turning the nation around for the better? Probably not. It will take more than two terms to fix this mess. However, there is something at stake, and that is George Walker Bush paying for his crimes.
Here is the short list: An invasion of Iraq that has not achieved its original purpose (Weapons of Mass Destruction…remember?) Enron, Halliburton truckers being paid exponentially more than the soldiers protecting them along their routes, invasion of privacy via the Patriot Act, waterboarding at Guantanamo Bay, the current economic crisis brought on by companies he allowed to run amok, the Hurricane Katrina relief disaster, a third world energy grid (no one ever thinks of that one) and last but certainly not least, the events of September 11th, 2001. There is a big difference between making inspirational speeches after an attack and doing your real job, which is to prevent the attack in the first place.

The New York Times, “After Epic Campaign, Voters Go to Polls”

Americans went to the polls on Tuesday to choose the next president of the United States, deciding whether Senator Barack Obama or Senator John McCain was better suited to guide the nation through an economic crisis at home and two wars abroad.
In voting booths in every corner of the land, the people were collectively writing the ending to a political saga that has been unfolding for nearly two years, during a tumultuous, uncertain period of American history in which record numbers of people expressed concerns that the country was heading down the wrong track.
