Reuters, “Bush signs controversial anti-piracy law”

“By becoming law, the PRO-IP Act sends the message to IP criminals everywhere that the U.S. will go the extra mile to protect American innovation”
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush signed into law on Monday a controversial bill that would stiffen penalties for movie and music piracy at the federal level.
The law creates an intellectual property czar who will report directly to the president on how to better protect copyrights both domestically and internationally. The Justice Department had argued that the creation of this position would undermine its authority.

The New York Times, “North Korea Is Off Terror List After a Deal With the U.S.”

The decision to remove North Korea from the terror list was a dramatic moment for President Bush, who had called the country part of an “axis of evil”
WASHINGTON — The Bush administration announced on Saturday that it was removing North Korea from a list of state sponsors of terrorism, in a bid to salvage a fragile nuclear deal that seemed on the verge of collapse.
Sean McCormack, the State Department spokesman, said that the United States made the decision after North Korea agreed to resume disabling a plutonium plant and to allow some inspections to verify that it had halted its nuclear program as promised months earlier.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — President Bush on Friday encouraged the American people to have confidence in the economy during a “deeply unsettling period.”

The Guardian, “Israel asked US for green light to bomb nuclear sites in Iran”

Israel gave serious thought this spring to launching a military strike on Iran’s nuclear sites but was told by President George W Bush that he would not support it and did not expect to revise that view for the rest of his presidency, senior European diplomatic sources have told the Guardian.
The then prime minister, Ehud Olmert, used the occasion of Bush’s trip to Israel for the 60th anniversary of the state’s founding to raise the issue in a one-on-one meeting on May 14, the sources said. “He took it [the refusal of a US green light] as where they were at the moment, and that the US position was unlikely to change as long as Bush was in office”, they added.

Pat Dollard, “Gee, F*cking Thanks, NY Times: Bush Authorizes Commando Raids In Pakistan”
WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush secretly approved orders in July that for the first time allow U.S. special forces to carry out ground assaults inside Pakistan without the approval of the Pakistani government, The New York Times reported on Thursday.
The new orders reflect concern about safe havens for Al Qaeda and the Taliban inside Pakistan, as well as an American view that Pakistan lacks the will and ability to combat militants, the paper said.
“The situation in the tribal areas is not tolerable,” said a senior U.S. official who spoke to the Times on condition of anonymity. “We have to be more assertive. Orders have been issued.”

I’ve noticed that there are several top topics each day on Digg and reddit that feature the following sentiments: pro-Obama, anti-war, anti-corporate, anti-Bush, and anti-McCain. It’s quite obvious that the majority of users share this bias, but how exactly do the numbers add up? Vote in the poll.
Pat Dollard, “Pelosi In CNN Interview: Bush Is A “Total Failure””

WASHINGTON - President Bush has been a “total failure” in everything from the economy to the war to energy policy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday. In an interview on CNN, the California Democrat was asked to respond to video of the president criticizing the Democratic-led Congress for heading into the final 26 days of the legislative session without having passed a single government spending bill.
Pelosi shot back in unusually personal terms.
“You know, God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States, a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject,” Pelosi replied. She then tsk-tsked Bush for “challenging Congress when we are trying to sweep up after his mess over and over and over again.”
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino defended Bush.
“What the president said is a fact — this is the longest a Congress has gone in 20 years without passing a single spending bill, so it’s clear that the speaker is feeling some frustration at their inability to do so.”
