Mirror’s Edge demo now vailable for PS3 and Xbox 360

Gaming Bits,Mirror’s Edge Demo Now Available For PS3 and Xbox 360

A playable demo for Mirror’s Edge is now available for the Xbox 360 and the PLAYSTATION 3. It opens with an animated intro of the game and then gives you a playable tutorial of the basic gameplay mechanics Faith uses such as running, sliding and disarming enemies. If you pre-ordered the game, you should have received an email with a code, giving you access to the Time Trials in the demo. In Time Trials, you’ll have find the fastest route through some checkpoints.

Mirror’s Edge is coming from DICE and EA to the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 on November 11, 2008.

Mirror’s Edge demo coming in the next few days

Kotaku,Mirror’s Edge Demo Hits This Week

Looks like that rumored Mirror’s Edge demo will be hitting the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 earlier than we thought.

Electronic Arts just announced that the demo for the free-running blank canvas will hit the Playstation Store on Oct. 30 and Xbox Live Marketplace on Oct. 31. The demo will include the prologue of the game, a tutorial and a segment of the single-player story mode.

Also people who pre-order the game through “select retailers” will receive an unlock code for access to the Time Trial mode. In the Time Trial mode you will have to try and find the fastest routes through chunks of the city.

I’ll be interested to hear if it makes anyone trying it motion sick. I was fine when I played the game, but Ash got all green and icky feeling.

Netflix streaming on 360 to offer HD

Gizmodo,Netflix HD Streaming Debuts on Xbox 360

The New Xbox Experience—which we just gave a stellar review—will not only stream Netflix movies. It will be streaming Netflix movies in HD. Whaaa? Nobody else does that!

Well, maybe they don’t. But Engadget confirmed that when NXE hits on November 19th, 300 HD movies will be available to stream from Netflix (as opposed to just the movie 300). That’s obviously not every movie in the Netflix digital collection, but it’s a start.

Seeing as I found SD streaming flawless on the 360, I’m really curious to see if Netflix and Microsoft can deliver the same short buffer times and easy fast forwarding in high def.

Joystiq hands-on: The New Xbox Experience

Joystiq,Joystiq hands-on: The New Xbox Experience

We suppose it’s best to just get the negatives out right in front. The build of the NXE we tried out is incomplete, and, as such, had missing features and hiccuped during navigation every now and then. Microsoft told us that the NXE is feature-locked, and that the time remaining before release is being spent optimizing performance. That said, when it was fast (which was most of the time) it was fast.

There are also some things we’d really have liked to see implemented that aren’t. Multiple simultaneous file downloads still aren’t possible, and MS frankly doesn’t know when – or even if – that will ever be realized. It’s also not possible to change settings such as your online status for Live and have them “stick” upon reboot.

Codemasters confirms DLC for GRiD

Joystiq,GRID getting new cars, events later this year

Codemasters has dropped word that new racing machines will be pulling up to GRID’s starting line later this year. The game will be getting a new DLC pack, dubbed “8-Ball,” this Fall, which will add two new multiplayer events and eight new cars, including the McLaren F1 GTR, Honda S2000 and 1971 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM. Additionally, while 8-Ball’s new cars and events will be released for both the Xbox 360 and PS3, the former will gain the added benefit of four new Achievements and 100 new Gamerpoints to earn. PS3 owners will have to fill their time dusting off vacant Trophy cases.

Another release, adding a V8 Supercars category and the Australian Bathurst circuit, is expected in the coming months. At this time, the Codies are tight-lipped regarding both price and an exact release date for any DLC, saying only that the first batch will drop this Fall for consoles, while PC players can expect information relevant to them to arrive “shortly.”

New Xbox 360 dash

Kotaku,Your 360 Themes “Could” Look Like This On The New Dash

The new 360 dash sure looks nice. Classy. Surprisingly classy, considering the raw functionality of the blades system. But as nice as it looks, what’s to become of those themes you’ve tarted your current dashboard up with? Well, according to Microsoft’s Larry Hryb, this is what they “could” look like. Which means it’s probably what they will look like.

Thanks Oliver

Mirror’s Edge puts gamers in the shoes of a free runner

Wikipedia,Mirror’s Edge

Mirror’s Edge is an upcoming first-person action-adventure video game that is being developed by EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows-based PCs. The game will be released on these platforms simultaneously in late 2008.

The game was announced by Electronic Arts on July 10, 2007 and will be powered by the Unreal Engine 3 with the addition of a new lighting solution, developed by DICE. The game has a realistic, brightly-coloured style and differs from other first-person perspective video games in allowing for a wider range of actions—such as sliding under barriers, tumbling, wall-running, and shimmying across ledges—and greater freedom of movement, in having no HUD, and in allowing the legs, arms, and torso of the character to be visible on-screen.

The game is set in a conformist dystopia in which communication is heavily monitored by a totalitarian regime, and so a network of runners, including the main character, Faith, are used to transmit messages while evading government surveillance.

Pirates of Caribbean director to make Bioshock movie

Xbox 360 Fanboy,Gore Verbinski to direct Bioshock movie

Wow. This could turn out to be great news. According to a Variety article, Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean director) has been snagged to direct the movie adaptation of Bioshock. Even better, John Logan, the screenwriter on The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Gladiator and more, is going to be doing the screenplay. AND, the Take Two Chairman, Strauss Zelnick, has supposedly structured the deal in such a way that it actually happens, unlike other notable video games movies that have attempted to run the Hollywood gauntlet. With such a setup as this, we could be looking at the beginnings of the best video game movie ever made. Hmm … we wonder what Uwe Boll thinks of this?
